Lyda Buttermilk Soap

$7.25

Lyda Conley (1869-1946) was a Wyandot lawyer, and the first woman to be admitted to the Kansas bar. She was the first Native woman to be admitted to argue a case before the Supreme Court of the United States. She campaigned to prevent the sale of the Huron Cemetery in Kansas City, a first in that a plaintiff argued that indigenous burial grounds were entitled to federal protection.

Buttermilk soap was created and marketed during the Victorian era.

Many skincare recipes of the time called for almond oil, wax, and spermaceti oil. Several decades ago, sperm whale oil was outlawed and meadowfoam seed oil was created to replace it. I have incorporated sweet almond oil, beeswax, and meadowfoam seed oil into this soap as an homage to skincare rituals of the time.

Net wt.: 4oz/113g

Ingredients: Sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, coconut oil, water, castor oil, sodium hydroxide, meadowfoam seed oil, buttermilk powder, beeswax.

My soaps are handmade, which means that each one is unique and varies depending on the batch. I recommend you drain out any soap dish you use to avoid your soap dissolving faster. Any handmade cold process soap should be stored in a dry area when not in use.
